Sprites

This is an example of 3D printing a 2D sprite
When images are created on a pixel level. They are called pixel art. This is what is often used to present 2D sprites. "sprite is a bitmap graphic that is designed to be part of a larger scene. It can either be a static image or an animated graphic." (https://techterms.com/definition/sprite)
However, 3D sprites are now used to give sprites a depth making them seem more realistic.




Concept art

"The main goal of concept art is to convey a visual representation of a design, idea, and/or mood for use in films, video games, animation, or comic books before it is put into the final product."

Right, shows  the initial and final concept variations for Sombra, a stealth based hacker in Overwatch. Showing the variations after the initial thoughts revolving around the specifications given.  

Concept arts are created for items, weapons and other sprites.

Texture art


 Textures are used to accent how something looks or feels.Left is the first stage of Yoshi's woolly world, which uses the texture of yarn to make to the game unique and diverse.
Gravity Rush also uses art effects during set intervals to make area feel like a comic strip.



Foreground and background graphics


Terraria, uses its background graphics to differentiate biomes as in the picture where the time and location is shown by the sun in the sky and the rainbow and evergreen trees. It's head up display (HUD) created in the foreground displays important details without being to invasive. The health and mana shown on the right and buffs and toolbar on the left.




Print media

This refers to any external "physical" images of a game including cover art, instruction manuals, posters and promotional magazines. These are used to heighten sales by ensuring that the populous know of it's existence
